against a fixed rubric — the same ten dimensions, every time, so the scores mean something across brands and across editions. Usually it’s one brand under the microscope.

To kick the series off, I wanted a face-off. Not because comparison makes better content (it does), but because a single page can lie to you. Score one brand alone and you can’t tell whether what you’re seeing is that brand’s choice or just how Indian D2C does it. Put three side by side on the same rubric and the noise cancels out. What’s left is signal: the decisions that actually separate a page that sells from a page that just looks good.

So I pulled the live pages for three of the sharpest menswear brands in the country and scored them side by side. Not a flagship each — that’s how you get fooled by one well-chosen page. Ten product pages per brand. Thirty pages, scored one dimension at a time. I wanted to know not just who wins, but whether the win holds across a catalog, or evaporates the moment you click to the next SKU.

I expected a clear winner and two also-rans. I got something more useful — and the larger sample changed the order.

Why these three

I didn’t pick these brands because they’re easy targets. I picked them because they’re the ones operators actually benchmark against — and because, between them, they cover the three different instincts Indian menswear D2C was built on.

Snitch is the rocket. It closed FY26 with roughly ₹900 Cr in operating revenue — up about 80% from ₹498 Cr the year before — and is now EBITDA-positive, with 115 stores and a stated target of ₹1,400 Cr in FY27. This came on the back of an all-shark Shark Tank deal and a ~$40M raise; it’s been called one of the fastest-growing D2C fashion brands in India. Snitch is the fashion-led, drop-driven, photograph-everything brand.

The Souled Store is the profitable one: ₹492 Cr in FY25, up 37% from ₹360 Cr, and — unlike most of the cohort — in the black, with 200+ licences and 40+ stores. It’s the licensed-IP and community brand, the one that turned Dragon Ball Z and Marvel and your favourite sitcom into a ₹500 Cr apparel business. Different DNA entirely: it sells belonging, not just garments.

DaMENSCH is the specialist, and by far the smallest of the three — ₹118 Cr in FY25, the second-largest D2C innerwear brand in India behind XYXX, built on fabric-engineering claims and a direct-response playbook. It’s still loss-making, and it’s a fraction of the other two by revenue.

A ₹900 Cr giant, a profitable ₹500 Cr peer, and a focused challenger roughly an eighth their combined size. Three brands, three philosophies — fashion, community, performance. The perfect spread to ask one question: when each of these brands has to convert a first-time shopper on a single page, who actually does it?

Here’s the part I didn’t see coming. The smallest brand shipped the best page — by a distance.

The leaderboard

DaMENSCH — 43/50. The closer.

The Souled Store — 32/50. The reassurer.

Snitch — 28/50. The merchandiser.

The smallest brand in the test — a fraction of the size of the two giants — out-executes both on the exact surface where revenue gets decided, and the gap widened as I added pages. That’s the first lesson before we’ve even started: PDP craft is not a function of scale. It’s a function of whether someone decided the page had to argue, not just exist. DaMENSCH did, on all ten of its pages. The other two each did half the job brilliantly and forgot the other half — also on all ten.

Here’s what ten pages told me that a flagship each never could: at a single page apiece, Snitch and The Souled Store tied on 31. Score ten and Souled Store pulls clear. Why? Because Snitch’s problems are spread — buried proof, weak copy, and incoherent pricing, three separate leaks — while Souled Store’s single flaw, no reviews, is contained. One bad dimension costs less than three mediocre ones. You only see that when you stop cherry-picking the page.

And read the shape of the table, not just the order. The gap between first and second is eleven points; between second and third, four. That’s not a podium with three contenders — it’s one brand playing a different sport. The score distributions say why. The Souled Store’s card runs the full scale: a 0 and three 5s on the same page. Those are decisions — someone chose no reviews the same way someone chose the 30-day no-questions return. Snitch’s card is a smear of 2s and 3s with a single 5 for photography. A 0 is a strategy; a 2 is a dimension nobody in the building owns. And DaMENSCH’s card has a floor of 3 — not one dimension below competent — which is what “the page must argue” looks like when it’s a policy rather than a mood.

Each of these brands is world-class at exactly one thing and amateur at another. Snitch shoots the best photographs in the category and then forgets to sell. DaMENSCH closes like a direct-response machine and then shows you a thumbnail. The Souled Store removes every ounce of risk and then gives you no reason to believe.

Nobody ships the complete page. Here’s the tape.

Round 1 — Social proof: who lets you trust them?

This is the widest gap in the entire face-off, and it’s the cheapest to fix.

DaMENSCH wins, and it isn’t close (5 vs 2 vs 0). The rating sits right under the product title on all ten pages — 4.6 to 4.9, with counts from 13 to 519, and a BESTSELLER badge on the innerwear. Before you’ve scrolled a pixel, you know other people bought this and were happy. That’s proof doing its job: at the moment of doubt, not three taps away. And it goes further than a star rating — every page shows the full review stream, verified-purchase, dated, with fit notes. Proof you can read beats proof you can total.

Look at that low end of the range, because it’s a tell. DaMENSCH surfaces the rating even where it has just 13 reviews. Most brands hide the stars until the count looks impressive; DaMENSCH has decided a visible 4.9 (13) beats an invisible anything. That’s not a design choice, it’s a conviction about how trust works — and the other two brands each hold the opposite conviction with equal consistency.

The complete buy-box: proof, anchor, and offer in a single screen — before one pixel of scroll.

<picture></picture>

<g>

</g><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line>

Snitch has the asset and hides it. Its reviews are genuinely strong — from a Spider-Man tee to an own-label solid. To be fair, this is closer to a strategy than a lapse: its pages carry twenty-five to forty-six photos apiece — proof by exhaustive depiction, visual certainty standing in for social certainty. When the character sells the shirt, that works; the One Piece fan arrived already wanting it. But here’s the detail that should worry them: the ₹1,699 TSS Originals tee is the single most expensive product in this entire thirty-page study — and the page with the least evidence anyone has ever bought one. The no-reviews template was built for pages where Spider-Man is the social proof. and ten pages make it undeniable — a 4.6 nobody can see converts worse than a 4.2 in the buyer’s eyeline. Surfacing beats scoring. And whether you surface, bury, or omit isn’t a per-product call; it’s one switch, set once, for the whole catalog.

Round 2 — Price & persuasion: who gives you a reason?

DaMENSCH wins again (price framing 5, copy 5). On all ten pages it anchors hard — MRP struck through, a stated % off, then a coupon “BEST PRICE” below that (a boxer at ₹699 → 16% → ₹442, with WELCOME10 and a stacked “25% off over ₹2,500” spelled out in rupees). More importantly, its copy sells: “3× softer than cotton,” “odour-cancellation,” “zero roll-up,” “lasts longer.” Every line is a benefit, not a spec. That’s Claude Hopkins with a Shopify theme.

Snitch’s problem isn’t no anchor — it’s what the anchor leaks. Its discounts, page to page: 7%, 30%, 20%, 10%, 0%, 30%, 13%, 30%, 30%, 30%. One overshirt carries no MRP anchor at all. Look closer and this isn’t random — it’s two regimes. Half the catalog sits at a flat 30% off; the rest scatter across 0–20%. That pattern reads like fresh drops near full price and aging stock marked down to a house-standard 30 — which means Snitch’s sticker isn’t a price signal, it’s an inventory-age signal wearing a price tag. Internally, the logic is probably fine. Externally, it’s corrosive, because the shopper learns the pattern faster than you’d think: nothing at 7% is worth buying, everything eventually hits 30. The discount structure is training Snitch’s own customers to wait — a merchandising system optimizing stock turns at the direct expense of price trust.

Same brand, same week: fresh stock at full price, aging stock marked down deep. At scoring time the spread ran 7% to 30%; by this July recapture it ran 0% to 60% (mid “B’day Sale”). The regimes moved; the incoherence didn’t. The sticker is telling you the inventory’s age. Contrast The Souled Store’s clean, deliberate refusal to discount — flat pricing on ten of ten pages, not a single strikethrough anywhere (₹899, ₹999, ₹1,199, ₹1,699… all full price). One brand’s sticker teaches you to wait; the other’s teaches you the price is the price. The Souled Store carries the highest average asking price of the three (~₹1,134 vs Snitch’s ~₹940 and DaMENSCH’s ~₹792) — and pairs it with the most generous safety net in the study. Full price, fully de-risked: that’s a coherent trade, and it’s plausibly why the no-discount stance survives contact with the market. Snitch is the only brand here where price and reassurance diverge — four-figure tickets backed by the flimsiest promise. Those two curves have to move together, because every rupee of price is a rupee of the shopper’s risk.

The 10-of-10 pattern (the real reason this matters)

Here’s the finding that only thirty pages could give me, and it’s bigger than any single round.

Every brand is uniform — in its strength and its weakness — across its entire catalog. Not a single dimension above was a one-off. DaMENSCH surfaces a rating on 10 of 10 pages. Snitch buries reviews on 10 of 10. The Souled Store omits them on 10 of 10 and discounts on 0 of 10. These aren’t product decisions made SKU by SKU. They’re template decisions — coded once, repeating everywhere — which means the leaderboard above isn’t really scoring nine hundred individual choices. It’s scoring three platform configurations.

Two consequences fall out of that, and they point in opposite directions:

The bad news for the laggards is that the leak is everywhere at once. Snitch isn’t losing trust on one unlucky page; it’s losing it on every page it has.

The good news — and it’s enormous — is that the fix is also everywhere at once. Because these are template switches, the highest-ROI move in this entire study is a single edit. Snitch surfacing its already-excellent 4.6/280 rating out of that accordion isn’t a thousand-page grind; it’s one change to one component that lifts every product page simultaneously. It ships in an afternoon and it’s the closest thing to free money in Indian D2C right now.

It also means this league table is unusually unstable. Brand rankings move in years; template rankings move in a sprint. Pull the reviews out of the accordion and rewrite ten opening sentences, and Snitch’s 28 becomes roughly a 33 — past The Souled Store — in one deploy. Nothing else in these companies can be reordered that fast. Read that as a threat or an invitation depending on which chair you’re sitting in.

But the template finding goes a level deeper than “fix it once, fix it everywhere.” A template doesn’t just repeat your decisions — it repeats your assumptions, silently, onto every product you’ll ever launch, including the ones those assumptions no longer fit. You can watch it cut both ways inside this one study.

At DaMENSCH, it’s a tailwind. The BESTSELLER badge splits the catalog perfectly: every boxer and vest page carries one, no tee or polo does. Review counts tell the same story in rougher strokes — the core innerwear has accumulated hundreds of reviews (up to 519), while the newer topwear mostly sits between 13 and 59. That’s a brand’s expansion map, readable off its badges. The topwear pages are riding a trust apparatus the innerwear earned — same rating placement, same guarantee, same anchored pricing — applied to products that haven’t yet earned it themselves. The template is lending credibility across categories.

The frontier product: 15 reviews (13 at scoring), a NEW badge where the innerwear wears BESTSELLER, full trust apparatus. Compare with the boxer page above — that’s an expansion strategy in two screenshots.

<picture></picture>

At The Souled Store, the same mechanism runs in reverse. No-reviews was a defensible call when every page had Spider-Man on it — the license is the social proof. But the template can’t tell a Marvel tee from a ₹1,699 own-label, so an assumption built for IP-land now silently taxes the own-label line — the very products the margin story depends on. Same uniformity, opposite sign.

That’s what a PDP template actually is: not a design file but a fossil record of what the company believed when it was built. DaMENSCH’s fossil says we sell to skeptics. The Souled Store’s says we sell to fans. Snitch’s says the feed already sold them. Each was true once. The scoreboard measures how true it still is.

And one thing nobody is losing on: photography. All three run deep galleries — Snitch averages around eight images a page, The Souled Store around thirty-five, DaMENSCH sixty-plus including variant shots. Indian D2C has fully solved the picture.

Forty-six photographs of one Spider-Man tee at scoring time; the July redesign curates the wall into large editorial tiles plus a shop-by-look strip, and the price moved ₹1,199 → ₹1,299. The picture is solved; the argument isn’t. Which is exactly why the picture no longer wins anything. itself:

Snitch’s gallery — deep, model-on-body, seven colorways shown as full looks.

DaMENSCH’s buy-box — rating under the title, MRP anchor, benefit-led copy, stacked offers with explicit savings.

The Souled Store’s safety net — 30-day no-questions returns and a real fit guide.

Every component already exists, live, on an Indian D2C page today. No one has put them on the same page.

And here’s the humbling part: assemble it, take the best score any brand earned on each dimension, and the composite still only reaches 45 of 50. Best-in-class everything, five points short — because nobody in this test has cracked urgency (3, 2, 3) or cross-sell (2, 3, 3). The two levers that move a shopper now and grow the basket are unclaimed — not just by these three but, on this evidence, by the category. The Frankenstein page isn’t the ceiling; it’s just the best anyone has proven possible so far. The last five points are open whitespace, and the first brand to claim them won’t be copying anyone.

The one dimension that does vary — and why it nearly fooled me

There’s exactly one exception to the “read it off any single page” rule, and it’s pricing — the only lever that genuinely changes SKU to SKU. It’s also the one that nearly fooled the original cut. Judged on a single Snitch flagship at full price, the brand looks like it never anchors. Judged across ten pages, it anchors constantly — on two regimes no single page can reveal: fresh stock near full price, aging stock at a flat 30. The lesson for the rubric itself: nine of ten dimensions you can score off one well-chosen page, but price you have to sample, or the page you happened to open will lie to you about the catalog.

The category blind spot

Across all three, two patterns repeat — and they’re the real takeaway:

Photography is world-class; proof is an afterthought. Indian D2C learned to shoot. It has not learned to surface social proof where the decision happens. Two of three brands hide or omit reviews entirely.

The buy-box and the persuasion live in different rooms. The page that looks best (Snitch) and the page that sells best (DaMENSCH) are different pages — because almost nobody treats the gallery and the buy-box as one continuous argument.

Why does the category look like this? Because nobody’s PDP was built for a first-time comparison shopper — each was built for the shopper its acquisition engine already delivers. Snitch’s buyer arrives pre-persuaded by the Instagram feed, so the page never learned to argue; it merchandises. The Souled Store’s buyer arrives a fan, pre-sold by the license, so the page never learned to prove; it reassures. DaMENSCH’s buyer arrives off a direct-response ad, skeptical, comparison-shopping ₹400 boxers — so the page had to close, or the company died. These gaps aren’t oversights. They’re each brand’s acquisition model showing through the HTML. And that’s exactly why they persist: every page works fine for the traffic it was built for, and quietly bleeds the traffic it wasn’t.

Notice, too, where the money went. Photography — solved by all three — is the expensive layer: shoots, models, studios, every drop, forever. The buy-box — unsolved by two of three — is the cheap one: a template edit and three sentences of copy. The category is over-investing in the solved, expensive layer and under-investing in the unsolved, free one.

Fix that and you don’t need a redesign. You need to move what you already have above the fold, and write three sentences that sell instead of describe.

Scored against the Inferentia 10-Dimension PDP Rubric v1 (0–5 per dimension, 50 max). Thirty product pages — ten per brand — pulled live 21–22 Jun 2026, spanning each brand’s actual catalog: Snitch shirts/trousers/overshirts; The Souled Store licensed-IP and own-label tees/polos/vests; DaMENSCH boxers/vests/tees/polos.
